GARDEN DELIGHT - JULY 11, 2025

Another beautiful day out on my deck! I’m recovering from cataract surgery, so I’m taking it easy…but what a gift this morning has been. It’s 74 degrees with almost no humidity and a refreshing breeze, making it feel just about perfect.

My zinnias along the fence are blooming beautifully, joined by vibrant bee balm and lantana—such a perfect combo for attracting hummingbirds and butterflies. The birds are busy as ever this morning. I just watched a tiny wren take a bath in some pooled water on my outdoor table in what I call my “natural area.” It’s a shaded part of the yard under my big hickory tree…I have planted about 6 flats of impatiens around that big tree…in fact, that whole area is filled with hostas, impatiens, and azaleas…all thriving in the cool shade.

My “natural area” (probably should have called it more appropriately “my azalea garden”) is one of my favorite places to sip tea on a quiet morning or afternoon, surrounded by blooms and birdsong. There’s truly nothing better.
