My Cat, Buster

What an absolutely beautiful morning it is! I am sitting out here on my deck…enjoying my usual morning flavored coffee. The air carries just a hint of chill, but it promises to warm up to a perfect 82 degrees later today. These are the kinds of days that make you want to linger outside a little longer.
Buster, my sweet male cat who was once a feral stray, is sitting quietly at my feet. Normally, he’s full of curiosity and eager to prowl the backyard, but this morning he seems unusually calm…just content to sit and take it all in with me.
The birds are busy at the feeders as usual. I just spotted a mother house finch feeding her little ones and gently encouraging them to learn to eat on their own. Such a tender moment to witness. In my crepe myrtles, robins have made their homes…I counted three nests! The Red Bellied Woodpecker has just arrived to feed on his favorite food: the peanuts! And early this morning, before I even went out on my deck, a little wren was serenading me.
I plan to spend part of the day in the garden. There’s still planting to be done and though it’s not my favorite…some necessary weeding. But it’s all worth it when I see the lilies starting to peek up and the zinnias stretching taller each day along the fence. I can’t wait to see them bloom! In fact, the orange lilies are beginning to bloom…their blooming is always a sign that summer will be arriving soon!!
What a gorgeous day to be alive, to dig in the dirt, to listen to the birds, and to share a quiet moment with a once wild cat who now knows his home…
“This is the day that the Lord has made…I will rejoice and be glad in it.” — Psalm 118:24
